Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Cummings

The death of Mary Elizabeth 'Clara' Cummings, widow of Sterling M. Cummings, occurred at Rocmaura Nursing Home in her 90th year, on Saturday, January 17, 2004. Mrs. Cummings was born in Goshen, N.B., a daughter of the late Warren and Rose (Buckley) Purtill, the last surviving member of her family, and had resided the greater part of her life in Saint John. She was a graduate of Mount Carmel Academy. She had been secretary at St. Peter's Church for a number of years. She was a Past President of St. Peter's Catholic Women's League and a member of St. Elizabeth's Society. She was pre-deceased by a brother, Elmer; and a sister, Gertrude. She is survived by five sons, Michael (Betty) of Sussex, Walter (Glenda) of Quispamsis, Lewis (Ann) of Moncton, Paul of Vancouver, and Gerard (Cheryl) of Sussex; two daughters, Elizabeth Aucoin (Gordon) of Laval, Quebec, and Rosemary Lenahan (Patrick) of Quispamsis; 16 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with visiting on Sunday from 7 to 9 and on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter's Church on Tuesday morning at ten o'clock. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Rocmaura Foundation Inc. or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
