Obituary of Marie-Monique Gill

GILL-the death of Marie-Monique Gill of 124 Black St., wife of Kenneth Wm. Gill, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, January 4, 2009. Mrs. Gill was born in 1936 at Verdun, Quebec, where she was raised and educated, and had resided in Saint John since 1958. Apart from teaching French as a second language for several years, Monique was involved through the years with a number of organizations: Le Cercle Francais de Saint-Jean; SAANB; Toastmistresses; St. Pius X Parish Council; St. Pius X Choir; Saint John Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services as a board member; and also a co-founder of CHHA-NB Chapter. After training and receiving accreditation in Calgary, she initiated instruction classes in speechreading (lipreading) for the hard of hearing and instructed many classes. She was predeceased by her baby son, Sean in 1967, and her 15 year old son, Mark in 1975. Besides her husband, she is survived by her sister, Celine Chagnon, her brother, Jean-Michel Chagnon (Monique), 2 nephews, 1 nieces, and several cousins, all from Verdun and LaSalle, Quebec. She also leaves a sister-in-law, Gail Kai (Darrel) of Langley, B.C., as well as two nephews. Her mission was accomplished and the Lord called her back. Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with visiting on Tuesday from 7 to 9. Service will be held at Fitzpatrick's Chapel on Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,donations to the Canadian Hard of Hearing (Saint John Chapter/National) or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
