Obituary of Sister Ruth E. Thompson

THOMPSON, Sister Ruth E.- The death of Sister Ruth E. Thompson (Sister Mary Robert) of Ruth Ross Residence, occurred on Sunday March 14, 2009 at home. Born at Windsor, Vermont, USA, a daughter of the late Robert A. and Loretta (Coyle) Thompson. Before Ruth Thompson entered the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception she was a member of the U.S.A. Navel Womens Reserve and worked as a payroll clerk during World WAR II. Sister Thompson entered the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception on February 2, 1947. Sister Ruth taught at St. Patrick's School in Digby untill 1951 when she moved to Saint John and served in the Accounting Office of St. Joseph's Hospital. She then returned to St. Patrick's in Digby in 1953 and taught grades 5 and 6. Upon her return to Saint John, Sister Thompson served as Bursar at Mater Misercordia Home for several years. In 1967 Sister Ruth moved to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan where she served as a Nursing Assistant at Holy Family Hospital and later as Admitting Clerk. Sister returned to New Brunswick in 1978, residing for a time at Rosary Hall in Fredericton and later at St. Joseph's Hospital Convent in Saint John. For several years she served as Pastoral Assistant at Stella Maris Parish and later as a volunteer at St. Joseph's Hospital and Saint John Regional Hospital. She presently resides at Ruth Ross Residence in Saint John, N.B. She was predeceased by her parents and one brother Francis Alden, she is survived by her brother Mr. Everett ( Ella) Thompson, of Cranston, R.I., three nieces and two nephews. Resting at St. Vincent's Convent, 31 Cliff St., with visiting on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St.Vincent's Chapel on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at ten o'clock. Interment will take place in the Sisters of Charity plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Prayer Vigil will be held on Tuesday evening at seven o' clock.www.fitzpatrickfh.com
