Obituary of Sister Marion K. Murray

MURRAY-the death of Sister Marion K. Murray (Sr. M. Anysia) occurred at Ruth Ross Residence on Thursday, April 2, 2009. Sister was born in Saint John, a daughter of the late Thomas and Ida May (Rowley) Murray. After obtaining a Complete Commercial Diploma she worked as a clerk-bookkeeper before entering the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception on February 2, 1939. She obtained her Teacher's License in 1942 and moved to Winnipeg where she taught grades 9, 10, & 11 at St. Joseph's School. In 1957 Sister moved to Infant of Prague Convent in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, and served as Teaching Principal at Sacred Heart Junior High School from 1957-1963. Sister resided at Our Lady of Good Counsel Convent in Edmonton from 1963-1970. Sister obtained her Bachelor of Education Degree from the University of Alberta in 1965. She was Principal of St. Alphonsus School in Edmonton from 1965-1972. Sister moved to Ottawa in 1973 and studied at St. Paul University where she received her Master Degree in Canon Law. Sister worked for the Alberta Regional Tribunal until 1982 when she returned to Saint John and served as Assistant Archivist of the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception from 1982-1985. In 1985 she was appointed Archivist of the Sisters of Charity and retired in 2002 as Congregational Archivist. At that time she was recognized for her work by Sister Margaret Toner who represented the Congregation in Commending Sr. Murray as "a learner and seeker after the truth" in her role of documenting the history of the S.C.I.C. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by three sisters, Ann Marr, Floss Warren, and Helen Duffy; and five brothers, T. Ronald Murray, Frank Murray, A. Gordon Murray, Harold K. White, and Ernest S. White. She is survived by several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Resting at St. Vincent's Convent, 31 Cliff St. with visiting on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Vincent's Chapel on Saturday morning at ten o'clock. Interment will take place in the Sisters of Charity Plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Prayer Vigil will be held on Friday evening at seven o'clock.
