Obituary of Margaret Constance Kilravey

KILRAVEY-the death of Margaret "Peggy" Constance (Garvin) Kilravey of Brentwood Towers, widow of Matthew Kilravey, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, April 25, 2009. Peggy was born in Saint John on September 15, 1918, a daughter of the late Maurice and Anna (Sullivan) Garvin. She was a graduate of St. Vincent's High School. After the death of husband in 1950 she attended Simmons School of Mortuary Sciences in Syracuse, N.Y. and became the first female funeral director in New Brunswick. For the next twenty-five years she was the managing funeral director at the family firm, Garvin's Funeral Home. She was predeceased by four sisters, Doris Garvin, Geraldine Garvin, Carmel Garvin, and Theresa Goggan; and her brother, Maurice Garvin. She is survived by her son, Frank (Mary Ann) Kilravey of Rothesay; her daughter, Ann Delano (Gerry) of Saint John; her sister, Noreen Palmer of Saint John; and several nieces and nephews. She was a devoted Nanny to her four grandchildren, Jo-elle Nordstrom of Saint John, Jill Delano of Saint John, Matthew Kilravey and Lucas Kilravey, both of Montreal. Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with visiting on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter's Church on Wednesday morning at eleven o'clock. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or any local food bank would be appreciated.
