Obituary of Mary Catherine Hayes

HAYES-the death of Mary Catherine "Kay" Hayes of 144 Champlain Drive, widow of Melvin E. Hayes, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Thursday, November 5, 2009. Mrs. Hayes was born in Sydney, N.S., and had resided the greater part of her life in Saint John. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Joachim's Church. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed camping at Harding's Point. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Leo Hayes. She is survived by her mother, Mabel Marie Kennedy of Saint John; two sons, Bruce Hayes (Tammy) of White Court, Alberta, and their children, Randy Thompson, Riley Thompson; and Kenneth Hayes (Kim) of Geary, N.B. and their children, Megan and Caitlin Hayes; two daughters, Joyce Hillier (Thomas) of New Minas, N.S. and their children, David Hillier, Matthew Hillier, Jacob Hillier (predeceased Krista Hillier); and Jean Tracey (Daryl) of Elmsdale, N.S.; and their children Allan Tracey, Adam Tracey, Andrew Tracey and step-grandchild Stephanie Sweeney; 4 step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with visiting on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joachim's Church on Saturday morning at ten o'clock. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
