Obituary of Russell A. Mellor

MELLOR-Russell A. Mellor passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Tuesday, November 17, 2009. He was the son of the late Thomas Russell (Richard) and Margaret Theresa (Kelly) Mellor. He came to Saint John in the early 20's when his father was transferred here. He grew up in the Cathedral Parish and attended St. Vincent's Boys' School until graduation. He was employed by Canadian Pacific Railway and continued to work in the transportation field. Later he went into business for himself and was employed by the City of Saint John and the Provincial Department of Justice. He was the owner/operator of a number of companies at the time of his retirement a number of years ago. He was a longtime follower of Dr. Bob and Matt Talbot through the Allison Group to whom he was always grateful. He was a former member of the Power Boat Club.He was predeceased by his wife, the former Valerie A. Patterson, in May 2009. He is survived by his son, Robert (Rose) of Saint John; his sister, Jane Montgomery of Boston; three grandsons, Robert (Mike), Richard (Mary), and Randall; five great-grandchildren, Thomas Paul, Christy, Sarah, and Brianne; and a great-great-grandchild, Jordon. Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with visiting on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Thursday afternoon at 12:05. Interment will take place in St. Augustine's Cemetery, Westfield. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
