Obituary of Raymond W. Kierstead

KIERSTEAD, RAYMOND W.-the death of Raymond William Kierstead of 14 King Square South, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Wednesday, August 31, 2011. Ray was born in Sussex on March 29, 1921, a son of the late Charles and May (Kierstead) Kierstead, and had lived in Saint John since 1934. He served with the Royal Canadian Army during the Second World War. He had been a longshoreman and carpenter by trade and was a longtime bar-tender at the Buffalo Club. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Cecilia Gallagher; his second wife, the former Marion Shephard; his daughter, Kathleen; and two grandsons, Keith and Michael Cregan. He is survived by one son, Gary (Corinne) Kierstead of Saint John; one foster-son, James (Ann) Cregan of Saint John; five grandchildren, Krista (Jeff) Waters, Kelly (Keith) Kierstead, Richard (LeAnne) Cregan, Kerri (Corey) Kierstead, all of Saint John, and Kevin Cregan of Alberta; and eight great-grandchildren, Keanin, Keeghan, Keira, Brooklin, Kyler, Kai-Lynn, Delaney, and Landon. Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with visiting on Thursday and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Service will be held in Fitzpatrick's Chapel on Saturday morning at ten o'clock. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
