Obituary of Douglas Owen ELLIOTT
<p>LLIOTT, Douglas Owen- Five boys were given life in the thirties. They were the children of the late Dates and Charlotte (Logan) Elliott. John passed away almost three years ago and Douglas passed away on the morning of September 6, 2011 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital. Douglas Owen was born on January 29, 1937.</p> <p>He has spent his entire life helping others. Doug gave his time, his talent, and his treasure for over thirty years to the formation of our young people through the Little League. He, along with his fellow coaches, took eight Saint John teams to the National Championship. He was known as a strict disciplinarian, but the young people loved him. Win or lose the boys got a treat. Taylor Lake was always alive with the sound of little children enjoying the boats and the water. Doug, along with his brother, Don, were in business together for over thirty years.</p> <p><br />Doug is survived by three brothers, Fred (Elaine) of Brighton, Mich., Don (Nancy) of Saint John, and Father Bill, Pastor at St. Joseph's in Loch Lomond; three nephews, Dr. Robb, Kevin (Carolyn), and Matt; and three nieces, Tracey (Don) Connolly, Nicole, and Megan.</p> <p><br /> Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with visiting on Wednesday and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church on Friday at noon hour. Interment will take place in St. William's Cemetery, St. Martin's. Doug was an extraordinary supporter of the New H.O.P.E. Centre in Loch Lomond and requests that in lieu of flowers you would remember him by making a contribution to the works of the H.O.P.E. Centre.
