Obituary of Raymond J. BUTLER
<p>BUTLER, Raymond J.- The death of Raymond J. Butler, husband of Shirley C. (Tolan) Butler, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Tuesday, October 4, 2011. Ray was born on June 14, 1928 in Grand Falls, N.B., a son of the late J. Vincent and Juliette (Rouleau) Butler. Ray enjoyed a varied career as a graphic artist, illustrator, designer, draftsman, motion picture photographer, public relations executive, before becoming a full-time artist in 1980. In 1991 he was awarded an Honorary Life Membership by the Saint John Art Club. In 1992 he was awarded the Canada 125 Commemorative Metal and in 2001 the New Brunswick Day Art Merit Award by the province. Ray will be remembered for his many different volunteer activities in Fredericton and Saint John. He was predeceased by two brothers, Arthur and Gerry; and a sister, Alberta Buckley. Besides his wife he is survived by a son, Stephen (Rose) of Saint John; two daughters, Debbie (Fred) Grass of Kingston, and Jennifer Butler (Christian Le Gal) of Saint John; five brothers, Jim (Nancy) of Chapel Grove, Peter (Mary) of Moncton, Joe (Sandra) of Cambridge-Narrows, Adrian (Gloria) of Black's Harbour, and Mike of Kingston; one sister, Sr. Pauline Butler, Sisters of the Good Shepherd, Montreal; three grandchildren, Amanda (Illya) Neilsen, and Jordan and Brendan Christian; two great-grandsons, Parker and Carsten Neilsen; his brother-in-law, Ervine Buckley of Saint John; and his sister-in-law, Doreen Butler of Saint John. He enjoyed many years with family and friends at Chapel Grove and home in the North End. Ray was a great lover of life, family, and art. He will be missed greatly by many. " I DREAM IN COLOR."<br /><br /> Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with visiting on Wednesday & Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter's Church on Friday morning at eleven o'clock. Following cremation interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
