Obituary of Patrick David FOLEY

FOLEY, P. David- the death of Patrick David Foley occurred at Bobby's Hospice on Thursday, December 8, 2011. David was born in Saint John on September 9, 1947, a son of Yvonne M. (Bastarache) Foley and the late Lambert H. Foley. He began his boxing career at the Lord Beaverbrook Rink, which would take him to Boston in the early 60's where he won the New England Golden Gloves Championship Heavyweight Division; in 1968. In the Nationals in Salt Lake City he won two fights before losing to Ernie Shavers by decision. Dave's career record was one loss in 37 bouts and never having been knocked down. He returned to Saint John in the late 70's where he was a self-employed painter. He was predeceased by a brother, Paul Foley, in 1999. Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, the former Rosemarie Peluso of Boston; his longtime friend, Ruth Shannon of Saint John; four sons, Patrick Foley Jr. of Boston, David Foley (Kerry Murphy) of Saint John, James Foley of Saint John, and Michael Baker of Boston; four brothers, Osmond (Connie) Foley of Browns Flat, Gerard (Mary) Foley of Saint John, Laurence Foley of Saint John, Gary Foley of Saint John, and Marc (Tricia) Foley of Quispamsis; one sister, Patricia Foley of Saint John; 9 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews including Dana Devine. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Monday afternoon at 12:05. In lieu of flowers, donations to Bobby's Hospice would be appreciated.
