Obituary of Agnes Josephine McCrossin

<p>Agnes J. McCrossin of Saint John, wife of the late Louis V. McCrossin, passed away peacefully at Rocmaura Nursing Home on Sunday, February 19, 2012 on her 105th birthday. Born in Sandy Point, Saint John on February 19, 1907, she was the daughter of the late Simon and Johanna (Murphy) Crowley. She graduated from St. Vincent&rsquo;s High School and Modern Business College, and worked as a legal secretary for Porter and Ritchie before owning and operating Colwell Real Estate with her husband, from which they retired in 1978. She was the first woman in Saint John to be Chairperson of the Saint John Real Estate Board, and was a member of St. Joseph&rsquo;s Hospital Auxiliary, the Saint John Regional Hospital Auxiliary, and St. Vincent&rsquo;s Alumni. In her spare time, she loved gardening and baking, and was an avid bridge player who enjoyed entertaining her many friends. Agnes was baptized at Holy Trinity Church, and was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish when she lived on Dunn Avenue, and the Cathedral Parish when she was a resident of Prince Edward Square Apartments. Agnes is survived by her children, Anne Leger (Fernand) of Ottawa, and Richard McCrossin (Elizabeth) of Halifax; grandchildren Monique McIntosh (Eric), Marc Leger (Tamara), Michael Leger, all of Ottawa, Christopher McCrossin (Laura) of Calgary, Laura McCrossin (Phil) of Miami, FL, Katie McCrossin (Zach) of Halifax, and Jeff McCrossin (Holly) of Ottawa; great grandchildren Hailey and Leah of Ottawa, Abigail and Hannah of Calgary, and Finn of Halifax; nieces and nephews Tom Crowley (Mona), Agnes Crowley, Mary Ellen Crowley, and Joe Crowley (Anne), all of Saint John; great niece and nephew Matthew Crowley and Laura LeBlanc (Raoul); and great great niece and nephew Emma and Noah LeBlanc. The last surviving member of her immediate family, Agnes was predeceased by siblings Irene Crowley (1922), Stockley Crowley (1969), Roy Crowley (1979), Thomas Crowley (1980), Evelyn Crowley (1994), and Helen Crowley (1995).</p> <p>Visiting was held at Fitzpatrick&rsquo;s Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo Street, Saint John (634-1965), on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 12:00 Noon from Holy Trinity Church, Rockland Road. Interment took place at St. Joseph&rsquo;s Cemetery.
