Gary J. Sargent

Obituary of Gary W. J. Sargent

Gary W. J. 'Sarge' Sargent, a true warrior, passed away peacefully at his home, 29 Belgrave St., on Sunday, June 20, 2004, with his wife of 25 years, his 'Baby Girl', and a loyal brother in arms, Mark Archer, at his side. Gary was born in Saint John, a son of Mrs. Gladys (Hachey) Sargent of Saint John, and the late Archie Sargent. In recent years he had been employed with the Fundy Solid Waste Commission. He had previously worked with the C.N.R.; the Princess of Acadia; and Tim Isaac Auctions. Friday night was his golf night and Saturday night was his dart night, while his early weekend mornings were spent at yard sales and flea markets finding toys, comics, and other treasures. He had actively participated in various Martial Arts for a number of years. He was a fair man with the biggest heart and was wise beyond his years. His unbelievable sense of humour touched all who met him and his great love of music was shared with everyone. He had mastered the graceful art of being clumsy. He made the most of life and although his purpose on earth has been fulfilled, his spirit will continue in a higher place. Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, the former M. Ellen Barry; one son, Geoffrey A. Sargent of Toronto; one daughter, Sarah M. Sargent of Saint john; one brother, Archie D. Sargent (Gloria) of Moncton; 32 nieces and nephews; 4 grandnieces; and 2 grandnephews. Following cremation, Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Stella Maris Church on Thursday morning at eleven o'clock. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Malachy's Alumni 'Gary Sargent Memorial Fund' or the IWK Sick Children's Hospital would be appreciated. Arrangements by Fitzpatrick's Funeral Service Ltd.
