Obituary of Sister Marion Egan MacDonald
<p>The death of Sister Marion Egan MacDonald (Sister Mary Loretto) occurred on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at Ruth Ross Residence. Born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, she was a daughter of the late Bernard and Marion (Egan) MacDonald from Prince Edward Island.</p> <p>She was a graduate nurse from Holy Family Hospital in Prince Albert, SK before she entered the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception in Saint John on February 2, 1944. Sister received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, NS and a Masters in Hospital Administration from St. Louis, Missouri. She was Director of Nursing Education at Holy Family Hospital, Prince Albert, SK and later Administrative Assistant at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Saint John from 1953 to 1957. From 1957 to 1980, Sister was Administrator of St. Vincent’s Hospital in Vancouver. In 1980, she was elected to the General Council of the Sisters of Charity. In 1990, she became the Director of Services at Ruth Ross Residence. After four years at St. Joseph’s Convent, Westside, she retired to Vancouver and volunteered at the Holy Name Parish. She continued to serve on many boards and committees and the Tapestry Foundation for Health Care.</p> <p>In 2005, the Marion Hospice at Windemere Care Centre, operated by Providence Health Care was named in recognition of her legacy to Health Care in Vancouver. Upon closure of the Holy Name Convent in 2011, Sister MacDonald moved to Saint John and resided at Ruth Ross Residence.</p> <p>Sister Marion is survived by six nieces, nine grand-nieces, eight nephews and eleven grand-nephews.</p> <p>Besides her parents she was predeceased by her sisters; Bernadette Macgillivray and Clarice McCashin, and her brother, Raymond A. MacDonald.</p> <p>Resting at Ruth Ross Residence with visiting on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM, with a Prayer Vigil that evening at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Ruth Ross Residence, Carmel Chapel on Monday, November 19, 2012 at 10:00 AM. Interment to take place in the Sisters of Charity Plot in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of <strong>Fitzpatrick’s Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo Street</strong>, Saint John, NB (506-634-1965).</p>
