Obituary of Wallace Feam Stephen

STEPHEN, Wallace Feam 'Wally' passed away peacefully in Halifax on July 16, 2004. Born in Saint John, he was the son of the late Thomas and Feama (Corey) Stephen. After graduating from St. Vincent's High School, Wally obtained his B.A. from St. Thomas University and his Bachelor of Law Degree from U.N.B. He then practiced law in Saint John before joining the family construction business, Stephen Construction Company founded by the Stephen brothers in 1921. Throughout his life Wally supported minor league baseball, hockey, rugby, and basketball. In university he was a member of the varsity rugby and boxing teams. He played baseball with the championship team the Saint John Cubs and hit the longest home run out of St. Peter's Ball Field. Wally was an active lifelong member of the Canadian Lebanese Association, the Progressive Conservative Party, and the Canadian Road Builders Association. He was also an active member of the Roman Catholic Church and the Senior Citizen's Secretariat. He is survived by three children; Thomas of Toronto, Vivian (Robert Purcell) and Wally (Mary-Alice Betlem) of Halifax, three siblings; Dr. Leonard (Roxie) of Saint John, Lawanda Thompson of Fredericton, Dr. Malcolm (Joan) Stephen of Moncton, two grandchildren; Zachary and Jordan Stephen of Halifax, several nieces and nephews, and dogs Amber and Tanoose Jr. He was predeceased by his sister Dorothy Zed and his brother Douglas Stephen. Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo Street (506-634-1965) with visiting on Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Wednesday morning at twelve o'clock. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dr. David Stephen Memorial Foundation.
