Obituary of Sister Alice Anne Vickers

<p>SISTER ALICE ANNE VICKERS (Sister Mary Michael) passed away at Ruth Ross Residence, Saint John, NB on November 3, 2013.&nbsp; A daughter of the late Albert and&nbsp; Emma (Burns) Vickers, she was born in Nelson Miramichi, NB. Following graduation, she travelled and worked in sales and office work. She entered the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception on September 8, 1956. A teacher by profession, she taught in Saint John and Bath, NB, and in Burnaby and Vancouver, BC. She was noted for her love of the children, especially the underprivileged.</p> <p>Her ministry also involved working in the Parishes of St. Joachim&rsquo;s and the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Saint John, NB. She had a keen interest in the Christian Initiation Program.</p> <p>For over 30 years she suffered from arthritis. Despite the crippling disease, she managed to keep her sense of humour and assist others. Her love of people was forefront in her day and she appreciated the many visits from her friends.</p> <p>She is survived by her four sisters, Sister Margaret and Sister Charlotte, both of Saint John, NB, Joan Kachel of California, Alberta Abud (Philip) of Dalhousie, NB, and one brother Gerald (Helen) Vickers of Saint John, NB and her sisters-in-law Marie Vickers, Fredericton, Mary Vickers, Blacks Harbour, Sylvia Vickers, Windsor, ON and Monica Vickers, Miramichi, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters Ella Meahan (Blair), Mary Gill (Gerald), and her brothers Bennie, William, Burns, Allan and Albert.</p> <p>Resting at Ruth Ross Residence with visiting on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM, with a Prayer Vigil that evening at 7:00 PM.&nbsp; A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at 12:10 pm.&nbsp; Interment to take place in the Sisters of Charity Plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
