Obituary of Rita M. Hunter

The death of Mrs. Rita M. Hunter of 6 Alpine St., widow of Francis Hunter, her husband of 69 years, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Thursday, November 4, 2004. Mrs. Hunter was born in Saint John, a daughter of the late Charles and Mary Ellen (McCrossin) Fennell. She had been employed as a desk clerk at the Wandlyn Motel for 13 years until her retirement in 1979.She was a longtime member of St. Ann's Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother with a heart of gold. She was pre-deceased by her son Douglas and his wife Ann (May) Hunter; two brothers, LeBaron Fennell of Natick, Mass. and James Fennell of Saint John; three sisters, Martina Fennell, Constance Bourque, and Pauline Keyes, all of Saint John. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Jane (Archie) Smith, and Marjorie (Paul) McDermott, both of Saint John; one sister, Josephine Arrowsmith of Pointe Claire, Quebec; 8 granddaughters, Kim Hunter, Shelly MacPherson, Pam Hunter, Heather Murphy, Krista Hovey, Shari Smith, Julie McDermott, and Janice McDermott; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joachim's Church on Saturday morning at eleven o'clock. Following cremation, interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Extra-Mural Program would be appreciated.
