Obituary of E.M. Peggy Higgins

E.M. Peggy Higgins, wife of the late Douglas I. Higgins, passed away, peacefully, on October 31, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Saint John. She was the daughter of Alexander and Annie (Upton) MacDonald, Saint John. Peggy was a proud and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a veteran of World War II (RCAF) and a lifelong member of Mission Church. An active sports enthusiast, she played competitive softball in her youth, and curled well into her seventies. She enjoyed summers at Epworth Park, travelling, gardening and helping others. She volunteered for several community services throughout her life. Peggy is survived by her children, Bruce (Margie) Higgins of Halifax and Jane Higgins of Fredericton; grandchildren, Jenna (Glen Nicholson), Ross, and Ian Higgins of Halifax, Mark Higgins of Red Lake ON and Sarah Boyer of Ottawa, sister-in-law Esther MacDonald of Cornwall ON, as well as several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Douglas I. Higgins, her four sisters Stella Poirier, Lena Clark, Edna Boyle, Willa (Gamble) Rood and three brothers Ronald, Jeremiah and Kenneth MacDonald. Visitation will be held at Brenan’s Funeral Home, Paradise Row, on November 6, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. Funeral service will be held at the Church of St. John the Baptist (Mission Church) and St. Clements, 819 Millidge Ave, Saint John at 3:00 PM, November 7, 2015. Her burial will take place later at Cedar Hill Extension, Manawagonish Road. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Church of St. John the Baptist (Mission Church) and St Clements.
