Obituary of Paul Marven Petley

The death of Paul Petley of Quispamsis, beloved husband of 54 years to Shirley (Coburn) Petley occurred on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on July 20, 1941 in Minto, he was the son of the late Guy and Lanore (Rankin) Petley. Prior to his retirement, Paul had a long working career as an orderly at various local hospitals and retired from St. John and St. Stephen Home. He always enjoyed going for drives with Shirley and one of his favourite spots was St. Martins. Playing crib and working on cars were some of his favourite hobbies. He was a wonderful man who was the rock of the family. He passed away after a brave battle with cancer with his family by his side every day. He will be sadly missed, but never forgotten. In addition to his loving wife, Shirley, Paul is also survived by their children, Marven (Angel) of Coles Island, Mike (Candace) of Chester, NS, Trevor (Nikki) of Saint John; his granddaughter whom he raised, Jessica Guidry (Brett) of Quispamsis; 12 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; siblings, Lanore (Ian) and Gladys (Floyd) all of Quispamsis, Margaret (Bob) and Joe (Rena) all of Saint John and Ronnie (Elsie) of Ontario; brother-in-law, Ervine (Bernice) of Minto; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his daughter, Audra and many siblings. As per Paul’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
