Obituary of Lawrence Ambrose McGrath

It is with sadness we announce the death of Lawrence "Lonny" Ambrose McGrath of Loch Lomond Villa, husband of the late Madelion (Feeney) McGrath; which occurred on September 5, 2016, at the age of 90. Born on September 11, 1925 in Black River, he was the son of the late Matthew and Catherine (Duffy) McGrath and the last member of their immediate family. Lonny was also predeceased by 7 brothers and 7 sisters. Lonny is survived by his children, Donald (Lila), Joseph (Susie), Stephen (Suzanne), Earl (Edie), Rita Brideau (Denis), Roseann, Shawn (Rosemonde), Martin (Shirley) and special daughter, Jody (Richard); 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Leo Feeney and several nieces and nephews. Lonny worked as a Longshoreman until his retirement. His hobbies included playing pool and attending card games at St. Ann’s and St. Joachim’s. Gardening was his passion and summers would be spent working long hours in his vegetable garden. He was very proud to gather up his vegetables and share them with his family and many friends. He also enjoyed baking a daily batch of biscuits and loved to share them with his neighbours, friends and staff of the Loch Lomond Villa. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424) with visiting on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Joseph’s Church, 4347 Loch Lomond Road, Saint John on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place in St. Patrick’s Cemetery (Black River). In lieu of flowers, remembrances to St. Patrick’s Cemetery Fund (Black River) c/o St. Joseph’s Church or the Loch Lomond Villa Foundation would be appreciated by the family. A heartfelt thank you is extended to "ALL STAFF" on Birch House, for their excellent care and kindness while dad was a resident.
