Obituary of P. Kenneth Nelson

It is with heavy hearts and great love that the family of P. Kenneth (Ken) Nelson announces his passing, which occurred on February 2nd at Bobby’s Hospice. Ken was born in Saint John, NB to Percy and Mary Nelson (n. Elliott) and worked for the Bank of Nova Scotia for 41 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Joan (n. Rourke); his son Jeff (Jennifer); his daughter Jennifer Campbell (‘Albert’); his grand-daughters Jillian and Emily Sullivan, and Meara Nelson; grandson Dylan Nelson; and great-grand-daughter Sadie Sullivan. Ken is also survived by sisters: Connie Chase, and Rene Smythe; brothers: Burt (Sandra), and Carl (Kathy); as well as several nieces and nephews, and extended family and close friends. In addition to his parents, Ken was pre-deceased by his beautiful daughter Susan Sullivan, his son-in-law Kevin, his sister Donna Logan, his brother Bobby, as well as sisters-in-law Evelyn Kelly and Patricia Carter, and brothers-in-law: John Kelly, Tony Carter, Don Smythe, Bud Logan, and Doug Chase. Ken was a long time member of the Carleton and York Regimental Association, and a life member of the Adanac Association. Throughout his 86 years, Ken remained a devoted and loving husband and father, and loyal friend to all who knew him. He enjoyed many wonderful summers with family and friends at "The Pines" in Cambridge-Narrows, and in recent years at his daughter’s pool and his son’s cottage. A family man through and through, he lived for his children and grand-children, and sharing a drink with family and close friends. Always quick with a joke, hardworking, and never one to complain, Ken will be sadly missed by one and all. A special thanks to the numerous doctors, nursing staff and health care workers that provided care over the past four years, especially those in the oncology department at the SJRH, and the truly amazing staff and volunteers at Bobby’s Hospice. Thanks also to family and friends who offered continued support throughout this time, many going above and beyond, especially Ken’s niece Barb Deep (n. Kelly) and her family. Respecting his wishes, a celebration of his life will be held at the Barrack Green Officers’ Mess (60 Broadview Ave.) on February 7th with a simple service and acts of remembrance at 1:00 PM. Open visiting with family will follow from 2:00 to 4:30. In lieu of flowers, and if so desired, donations may be made to Bobby’s Hospice, or a charity of the donor’s choice. As Ken was often heard saying as he bid farewell: "Hasta la vista".
