Obituary of D. James Doukogiannis

It is with appreciation for a life well-lived that the family of D. James "Jimmy" Doukogiannis, loving husband of Soula (Lytras) Doukogiannis of 51 years, announces his passing, which occurred peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Thursday, May 4, 2017. Born in Xirokambi, Greece on September 23, 1928, he was a son of the late George and Emily (Vlogiannitis) Doukogiannis. James had been a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Saint John since the time he immigrated to Canada in 1956. He was a valued member of the church council, and carefully arranged the church candles for many years as well as performing many other valued duties. James was a kind family man who enjoyed the simple things in life, and took great pride in his vegetable garden. In addition to his wife, Soula, James will be missed by his children: George Doukogiannis (Pamela) and Emily Lefebvre (Peter); beloved grandchildren, Shelby, Noah and John; siblings, Stephen Doukogiannis (Debbie), Chris Doukogiannis (Georgia) and Effie Michael (Nicholas); as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members. He was predeceased by his parents, and siblings, Louie and Katina. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, New Brunswick, (634-7424) with visitation on Sunday, May 7, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 8, 2017 at 12:00 pm from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Romero House or the Canadian Cancer Society.
