Lawrence Belding

Obituary of Lawrence Belding

With profound sadness and yet a very thankful heart the family of Lawrence Belding, cherished husband of 60 years to the late Marion (Flower) Belding, announce the peaceful passing of their beloved dad on Tuesday, May 22, 2017 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Lawrence was first born of eight children to Arthur and Beatrice (Toner) Belding in the quaint village of Chance Harbour, NB, on Dec. 5 1919, where he lived and raised his family for 97 blessed years. Lawrence began his life-long adventure on the water at the young age of 14 fishing with his dad in Martin Head. His career spanned 75 years of exciting adventures of Lobster fishing, ground fishing, hand lining and several years of a buying and selling boat business throughout NB and Maine. In the eyes of his family Lawrence was an amazing father who built a wonderful home, filled with love and kindness and gave his children a strong foundation to build their lives upon. He was a man who was good, wise, strong and the truest kind of success; a man who was loved more than he could possibly know. The family would like to express heartfelt appreciation to the many friends and family in the village who extended your love and kindness to Lawrence, who was able to enjoy his 97 years in his own home. Also special thanks to the Extra Mural Program, Kindred Home Care, Palliative Care and the exceptional care rendered by Jill Janes. Lawrence is survived by his three children: Kent (Twilha) of St. Martins, Margo (Gary) of Belleisle, Carmen (Rosa) of Toronto; grandchildren: Angela, Amber, Brandon Belding, Meredith Barrett; and great granddaughter, Julie Anne; sister, Inez Mawhinney; sister-in-law, Barbara (Belding) Sabean; and several nephews and nieces. Besides his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his brothers: Clyde, Garnet and Darrell; and sisters: Alda, Doreen, and Irene. The Belding family will be receiving guests at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-9pm. A celebration of his amazing life will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 2:00pm from the chapel of Brenan’s with a reception to follow. The interment will be held at the Chance Harbour Cemetery. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or of donor’s choice.
