Obituary of Edward and Sarah 'Sally' Lund

A love story of over 60 years We are truly at a loss to see the most amazing, loving and compassionate couple leave us to join our brother, Brian. We are comforted by the fact that they lived a wonderful life and will be forever together. Dad was a larger than life influence on all his seven kids. Our father, Dr. Edward Lund had dedicated his entire life to helping others, supporting his family and giving back to his community. He lived his life with the utmost of integrity and honesty. He showed a concern for the well-being of his patients that was hard to ignore. Growing up we have vivid memories of him heading into the hospital at all hours of the night or speaking with former patients, friends and doctors in need on a regular basis. He had always shown a sincere and heartfelt sense of empathy for so many people he came across. Growing up in a family of seven kids, our Father showed us the importance of an education (all graduated from University) and of doing the right thing, even when no one was looking. Our lives were filled with many fond memories of Mom and Dad supporting us in all our activities. Summers were filled with family trips to PEI, Isle of Pines on the Saint John River, Liverpool and Acamac, where several litters of Boxer pups were raised. Dad instilled in us the importance of not only doing what is best for us but also doing what is best for the community you live in. Not only did he have a fulltime job as a Radiologist and Chief of the Department, he managed to find time to serve as Chair of the School Board, head up the Physicians at Risk Committee and volunteer on numerous organizations and his church. All this while raising seven kids (within nine years of each other), coaching us in our sports teams and supporting us in all our activities. To this day it is common for any one of us to meet someone on the street who stops to tell us about how our Dad helped them in some way or how much he has given back. When he retired from Medicine, he took up wood working and dedicated all his work (all that didn’t go to his kids) to numerous charities. Mom was the rock of the family and her support for Dad over the years made everything possible. She was a giving, selfless, beautiful, fun-loving and non-judgmental woman who never wanted to miss an opportunity to spend time with her kids. She never let a funny one-liner get by her. She was a smart, witty and caring woman who dedicated her entire life to her family and was always there when we needed her. No questions asked and a keeper of secrets! As many Saint Johner's know, Dad was a great joke teller but what most people don’t know was that Mom was the true comedian and the Queen of one-liners! Our parents were always there for us. Always! This love story began on a blind date in Halifax. Sally, a young 21 year old moved from Liverpool to the big city, where she met Eddie who was a medical student from PEI and the rest is history. No way was this young beauty going to get away from our Father. They married soon after and moved to Saint John, where Dad started as a family doctor and soon after, they started raising their family of seven kids. They had a wonderful life together and will be sadly missed by all. Eddie and Sally are survived by their children, Susan (Dr. Don Andrew), Stephen (Sandy), Michael (Shelley Shaw), Kathryn (Jeffrey Drummond), Maureen (Bruce English) and Sean (Dannette Haley); as well as 16 grandchildren. They were predeceased by their son, Brian. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Friday, May 26, 2017 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM.
