Obituary of John E. McAloney

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John "Jack" McAloney, known to all as "Grampy", beloved husband of the late Helen Pearl (Whittemore) on June 18, 2017 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was born on February 18, 1932, celebrating his 85th birthday this past February. Jack is survived by his three children: John (Ann Marie) McAloney, Brian (Shelley) McAloney, and Debbie (Mark) McLeod; eight grandchildren: Sara (Duane) Squires, Becky (Cayden Moore), Madison (Jon Greer), Brooke, Brett McAloney, Mitchell (Claire Carson), Hannah (BJ Young), and Maggie McLeod (Tyler Ring-Dineen); and three great-grandchildren: Beckett and Colton Squires and Devyn Moore-Young. Jack is also survived by a dear friend, Diana Peacock. Jack was the son of the late Harry and Edna (Fulton) McAloney and was the last surviving member of six children. Jack was born and raised in Saint John and always considered himself a proud Saint Johner. He was the President of Trecartin Wholesale and was in the wholesale business until his retirement at age 75. He was well respected in the business community. Family always came first for Jack. There was nothing he enjoyed more than times spent at the cottage with his family and friends. Jack loved to sing. His career started early as a member of the Trinity Boys Choir, then later joining the Men of Fundy with whom he sang for over 20 years. Jack loved sports. He loved cheering on his grandchildren and he loved watching his Montreal Canadiens, Saint John Sea Dogs, and his beloved Toronto Blue Jays! He will truly be missed! Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 from 6 to 8 pm and Wednesday, June 21, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at 11 am from Portland United Church, 50 Newport Crescent. A private family interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery.
