Obituary of Josephine Marie Melanson

Surrounded by her loving family, the death of Josephine M. Melanson occurred on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on February 9, 1922 in Saint John, NB, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Jeanie (McCaig) Melanson. Josephine attended St Vincent’s High School and Mount Carmel Academy. Prior to her retirement, she had a long working career as an executive secretary at NB Tel as well as a ward clerk at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She was a member of St. Pius X Parish, the Catholic Woman’s League, St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary and a life member of the Telephone Pioneers. Josephine is survived by her devoted sister and friend, Bernadette Melanson of Saint John. She was cherished like a mother by her nephew, John O’Keefe (Robyn Lyndsay) and nieces, Catherine (Claude Savoie), Diane (Douglas Creamer), Therese Melanson-Embree and Carol Cobham McKendrick. She treasured every moment in the lives of her adoring great nieces and nephews, Brian, Cara, Mary and Jack as well as special memories with all of her nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters: Therese O’Keefe and Alice Cobham and brothers: Gerald and John Melanson. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visitation on Sunday, August 13, 2017 from 2:00 – 8:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Pius X Parish, 316 Somerset Street, Saint John on Monday, August 14, 2017 at 11 am. Interment will take place at Saint Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation – Palliative Care Unit or a charity of the donor’s choice.
