Obituary of Constance 'Connie' Dawn Wilcox

Connie passed away on Sunday, August 13, in the Saint John Regional Hospital at the age of 68. She was the daughter of the late Clare C. (Grant) and Donald H. Hicks of Saint John. Connie graduated from Simonds High School, the New Brunswick Teachers' College, and the University of New Brunswick (SJ) and was a teacher in Saint John and Quispamsis at junior high schools and the community college. She ended her career as a math teacher at Kennebecasis Valley High School. As a young woman, Connie enjoyed playing competitive basketball and was inducted into the Saint John Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the Saint John Alpines. She gave back by coaching youth basketball and volunteering with various youth recreation and sporting activities. An avid reader, Connie always had a book on the go. Her other passion was gardening which showcased flowers, shrubs, and trees around their home. She loved dinners with family and friends and getting together over tea and coffee. She also looked forward to the girls' regular high stakes rummoli (five cent limit). Connie is survived by her loving husband David Wilcox of Rothesay, son Scott (Cecilia) of Montreal, son Mark of Calgary, and daughter Vicki of Ottawa; grandchildren Alexandra, Matthew and Megan, and her brother W. Bruce Hicks of Toronto. She also leaves cousins Bill (Sandra) and Mike (Jane) Hicks, sisters-in-law Mary and Pat (late John) Wilcox, nieces Tina Wilcox and Tammy Wilcox-Doiron (John), and nephew Tom (Vicky) Wilcox. Remembrances may be made to the Saint John Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit or to a charity of your choice. Above all, consider honouring Connie by helping others. At Connie's request, a celebration of life will be held on Monday, August 21 at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, www.brenansFH.com at 1:00 pm, immediately followed by a reception.
