Obituary of Jean Helen Betty Hayes

It is with great sadness that the family of Jean Helen Betty (Hamm) Hayes of Saint John, beloved wife of the late Blake Ian Hayes announce her passing, which occurred peacefully on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at the Loch Lomond Villa. Born on April 12, 1928 in Saint John, she was a daughter of the late John and Christina (Spavoig) Hamm. Prior to her retirement, Jean worked as receptionist at Dr. Hicks Office. In her younger years Jean worked in the office at both SMT and Thornes. She always looked forward to summering at Beulah where she enjoyed her cottage with friends and family. Jean loved travelling, playing scrabble and always treasured the times with her precious family. She especially enjoyed the times with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who would always put a smile on her face. Jean is survived by her children, Brian Hayes (Lynn) of Saint John and Chrissy Arrowsmith (Jerry) of Quispamsis; grandchildren, Mike, Jeremy (Melissa), Meghan and Julie; great-grandchildren, Ryder, Summer, Aubree and Cohen; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, Jean was also predeceased by her grandson, Gregory; brothers: George, Plemen, Leslie and John Edward and sister, Alice. The family would especially like to express their gratitude for the exceptional care received while at the Loch Lomond Villa. The nurses, support staff and volunteers always treated Mom like she was family. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Friday, September 1, 2017 from 3:00 - 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be held from First Wesleyan Church, Boars Head Road, Saint John on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 11:00 AM. Private interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at 10:00 AM. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice.
