Obituary of Gary Wayne Bennett

It is with great sadness the family of Gary Wayne Bennett announce his unexpected death which occurred on September 28, 2017 at his home in Ottawa, ON. Born in Saint John on July 28, 1979, he was a son of Howard "Wayne" & Lucy "Elaine" (Phinney) Bennett. Gary was a much beloved son, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew and friend to many. He was a philanthropist, without the money. He loved to tinker and create, especially anything with wheels. Skateboarding was a great hobby of his. Gary had a profound appreciation for music. He had a wonderful personality, zest for life and loved to make people laugh. Gary suffered from a long term addiction and mental illness. Our family would like to bring awareness to this serious issue in hopes that if it can help anybody who is suffering to seek help for love and life. Gary will be lovingly remembered by his sisters: Linnet Martin (Patrick) and Lisa Bennett; brother, Robert Bennett (Amanda); foster siblings: Grant Hurley and Christina Tanner; nephews: Chace and Damien Bennett; grandfather, Herb Phinney; girlfriend Angela Moore; along with many aunts, uncles and cousins. Gary was predeceased by his grandparents: Dolores Phinney and Howard and Laura Bennett. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visitation on Monday, October 9, 2017 from 2-4 to 6-8 pm. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel, on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 2 pm. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Living Memorial Fund or the IWK Children’s Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
