Allan, Ronald Melbourne - We celebrate a life well lived, but it is with heavy hearts that the family of Ronald Melbourne Allan, announce his peaceful passing at Shannex in the Valley Nursing Home with family at his side on Wednesday 13 December 2017. Born in Saint John on December 11, 1932, a son of the late William and Margaret Allan (Folkins). Ron worked at the Saint John Dry Dock for 41 years, starting as a draftsman and moving up to Chief Estimator before retiring in 1992. Ron grew up in Saint John and after marrying Elizabeth Higgins of Amherst moved and built his family home in Renforth to raise their 4 boys. Holidays ranged from tent trailering with young children, to many years of boating on the Saint John River, on his masterpiece, the Juno V. In his retirement years he joined the 5th wheelers visiting Florida for many winters. In addition to his wife, Betty Allan (Snodgrass), Ron is survived by his children: Dr Mark (Donna) Allan of Kingston, NS; David (Sherry) Allan of Hubbards, NS; Stephen (Dorothy-Ann) Allan of Dartmouth, NS; Dr John (Patti) Allan of Quispamsis, NB and their 9 grandchildren, Kristen, Kerri-Ann, Stephanie, Ashley, Thomas, Greg, Rachel, Jillian, and Rebekah; step-children: Gregory (Joanne) Kincaide of Essex, ON; and Donna Marie (Raymond) Rose of Toronto, ON; sister-in-law Dorothy Allan of Saint John; and several nieces, nephews, and many friends. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his first wife Elizabeth Allan (Higgins), brother, Lewis and sister Dorothy Allan. The Allan family greatly appreciates all the attention and care that Ron received while in hospital, long term care, and especially throughout his palliative days. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visitation on Friday, 15 December from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. The funeral service will be held from St David’s United Church, 7 Gondola Point Road, Rothesay, NB on Saturday, 16 December at 11:00 am.
