Heenan, Joan Theresa (Shannon) R.N. – It is with grieving hearts the family of Joan Theresa (Shannon) Heenan R.N. of Saint John, formerly of Fredericton Junction, announce her peaceful and sudden passing which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Thursday, December 28, 2017. Born in Greenville, Maine on March 23, 1926 she was the daughter of the late Harry and Anne (Barry) Shannon. Joan graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in 1946. Joan worked as a devoted mother and wife. She returned later in life to her nursing passion serving St. Joseph’s Hospital as an R.N. for twenty plus years. Joan enjoyed spending time tending to her garden and playing the piano. In her younger years she enjoyed curling at the Fredericton Junction Curling Club. She was a woman of strong faith and loved her church family of St. Rose of Lima. Joan was known for her elegance and for being a true friend to all generations. Joan especially loved her home and the new house she and Lee built in St. Andrews. Her kindness and friendship will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Joan is survived by her loving son Francis " Lee" Heenan. She is also survived by several cousinsand a great array of friends and neighbours. In addition to her parents, Joan was also predeceased by her husband Francis Albert Heenan. Lee would like to extend special thanks to the health care staff of the Charlotte County Hospital and Palliative Care Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital for the exceptional care and compassion shown to his mother while in their care. No better folks! Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Monday, January 1, 2018 from 6-8 PM and Tuesday, January 2, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Rose of Lima Church, 541 Milford Road, on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Interment to take place at St. Columba Cemetery in Fredericton Junction in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary, Bobby’s Hospice or the Cathedral Restoration Fund. www.BrenansFH.com
