Wanda King

Obituary of Wanda A. King

With heavy hearts, the family of Wanda A. King of Saint John, wife of the late Gerald J. King, announce her passing on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at her residence in the Kings Way Care Centre. Wanda was born on November 14, 1928 in Plaster Rock, NB to the late Percy and Clissie (Spence) Barkhouse. Wanda was a hard worker, over the years working for Red Rose Tea, Bricklayers and Allied Craft Workers Local 8 as a clerk, and cooking and cleaning in private homes. Wanda was always quick to say funny remarks around family and friends and always spoke her mind. In her early years, she would hunt with her late husband Gerry and loved plants and animals and cooking. She loved going to the few summer camps they had over the years with the last being in Codys, NB on the Washademoak Lake. She will be sadly missed. Wanda is survived by her daughter, Brenda Gaines (Blaine) of Cornwall, ON; and sons: Ronald (Lorraine) of Blackville, NB and Brian (Stacie) of Saint John, NB; sister-in-law, Mary-Lou Northrup (Clint) of Quispamsis, NB; grandchildren: Allen Gaines, Tammy Turbide, Sabastian Glass, Vicki King Hanley, Valerie King, Jessica Brideau, and Daniel Brideau; great-grandchildren: Michaela, Alyssa, Tristan, Melanie, Stephanie, Hailey-Jo, Jackson, Austin, Falytia, and Stefani; great-great-grandchildren: Hayzen and Riley. Besides her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Sheldon (Dutchie) Barkhouse; daughter-in-law, Margaret (Peggy) King; and grandson, Jason King. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Kennebecasis Neighbourhood at Kings Way Care Centre for all they have done for Wanda. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). Interment will take place in the Spring in Coles Island Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. www.brenansfh.com
