Patricia Ann Melanson, wife of the late Walter J. Melanson, passed away peacefully at the age of 98 on January 7, 2018 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on September 25, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Annie (McKillop) Sweeney and she was also the last surviving member of her immediate family. Patricia was a lifetime member of the CWL at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. She looked forward to summers at her sister’s camp in Loch Lomond, family reunions in Chance Harbour, and in her earlier years, travelling to Alabama with her sister Dena and visiting her sister, Louise on Golf Club Road in Fredericton. Above all, Patricia took great pleasure in the time she spent with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews and Dixie the dog. Patricia is survived by her loving children: Edward Walter Melanson (Muriel), Arthur (Lorraine), Ann Marie Melanson, Nancy O’Leary (Clifford), and Eric Melanson; grandchildren: Christopher Melanson, Kimberley O’Leary-Evans (Neill), Scott (Jennifer) O’Leary, Natalie O’Leary, Angela (Bryan) Soucy, Michael (Betty-Joe) Hanson, Jamie (Cathy Hurd) Melanson, and Stacey (Todd) Phillips; great-grandchildren: Zachery and Mitchell Evans, Emma and Ryan MacDonald-O’Leary, Haley, Brady, and Alicia Soucy, Chelsea (Ellis) Murray, Urijah and Olivia Phillips; sister-in-law, Lorraine Hachey (Roger); and brother-in-law, Laurie Melanson (Marilyn), also including many nieces, nephews and members of her extended family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters: Louise Creighton, Frances Thompson, Dena Garnett, and Ollie Harrison; and her brother, James Sweeney. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 12:10 pm. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in the spring. Remembrances to the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick, Canadian Diabetic Association or a charity of donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
