Obituary of Joan Elizabeth Mortimer

It is with great sadness that the family of Joan Elizabeth Mortimer, wife of Joseph Mortimer, announces her passing which occurred on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on October 14, 1935, in Saint John, NB, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Annie (Pitt) McAuley. Joan loved her family and, when her health was better, enjoyed doing crafts, playing bingo, and seeing her family, grandkids, and great-grandkids. She worked hard at being a mother and, alongside her husband, worked with a cleaning business, J&J Janitorial Services, for many years as well as running her household. Joan is survived by her husband Joseph Mortimer, a marriage of 64 years; son, Joseph D. Mortimer (Marg Currie); daughters, Beryl Vautour (Leonard), Cathy Dupuis (Norm Boucher), Mary Clain (Tony), Cindy Rathje (Ron), Rose Sinclair (Tod), and Sharon Mortimer; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois Best (Doug); as well as several nieces and nephews. Aside from her parents, she is predeceased by her sisters, Marie Totten and Lorna Newman; and brothers, Tommy, Donnie, and Jerry McAuley. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB(634-7424) with visitation on Sunday, January 14, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A funeral service will take place in the Brenan’s Chapel on Monday, January 15, 2018 at 12:00. Interment at Cedar Hill Extension in the spring.
