Obituary of Rheta Fitzgerald-MacKay

The death of Rheta Fitzgerald-MacKay wife of George MacKay and the late Edward Fitzgerald, of Hughes Lane, Saint John West, NB occurred at Kennebec Manor on April 17, 2005. Born in Saint John the daughter of the late William Wright and Vera (Graham) Wright-Thorne. Throughout her life, Rheta had many occupations including working at an investment company, government offices, and the most important - a loving mother. She enjoyed learning and later in life attended UNBSJ completing studies in French as a second language. Rheta's hobbies included golf, swimming, skiing, tennis, bridge, dancing, sewing, and she was an avid reader. She belonged to the Westfield Golf and Country Club, East Bay Golf and Country Club, Clearwater, Florida, and various bridge clubs. Besides her second husband George, she is survived by one daughter, Joan King (John) of Rothesay, NB; two sons, Edward Fitzgerald of Vancouver, BC and John (Corinne) Fitzgerald of Chicago, IL; three step-brothers, Ron (Mayes) of Waterloo, Ontario, Doug (Beulah) of Cape Breton, NS and Cyril Thorne of the Belleisle, NB; one step-sister, Nita Madill (Gordon) of Dartmouth, NS; eight grandchildren: Edward, Myles, and Allison Fitzgerald, Roger, Andrew, and Derek King, Debra Bentley (Dan) and Laura Casey (Sean); six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her first husband, parents, step-father, Wendell Thorne; one son, Miles Thorne, and two brothers, Charles(Anne) of Palmdale, California and Llewellyn Wright of Saint John. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424 with visiting at 1 pm, one hour before the funeral service which will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2005 from Brenan's Funeral Home Chapel at 2:15 pm. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick or a charity of the donor's choice.
