Obituary of Elvira Frances McIllwraith

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vi McIllwraith of Saint John, NB, wife of the late J. Albert McIllwraith, occurred on Monday, October 24, 2005 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on February 22, 1929 in England, raised in Carsonville, Kings Co., NB, a daughter of the late Garnett and Dorothy (Price) Powell. Loving mother of Douglas (Debbie) of Rothesay, NB, Calvin of Bayswater, NB, Denise and Sonya of Saint John; niece, Hilda Foster, grandmother of Craig, Scott, Kris, Carie, Melanie, Serena, Dakota and Alliyah; great-grandmother of Rachel, Adam, Douglas, MacKenzie, Natha and Riley; three sisters, Doreen Forward, Sheila Goddard of Saint John and Beryl Smith of Ajax, ON; several nieces and nephews, friends and neighbours. Predeceased by her children, Donald (1950), Donna (1983) and Raymond (2000); sister, Muriel and brother, George. Vi was a lifetime member of the R.C. Legion Branch # 53 and the Ladies Auxiliary; she was also a member of All Saints Anglican Church. Vi will be remembered for her listening ear and prayerful support that she offered to all in need. An avid quilter she also enjoyed baking and gardening. Vi will be missed by her loving family, friends and neighbours. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John with visiting on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Memorial Service will be held from Brenan's Chapel on Wednesday, October 26, 2005 at 11 am with interment following in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. Remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Canadian Diabetic Association or the Saint John Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
