Obituary of Helen Barbara Smith

SMITH, Helen Barbara ? The death of H. Barbara Smith of St. Martins, NB, formerly of Saint John, wife of the late Neil Alexander Smith, occurred on Sunday, January 15, 2006 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born September 13, 1937 in Saint John a daughter of the late William H. and Dorothy (Thomas) Quinn; she graduated from Simonds Regional High School. Barbara had been a stay-at-home mom and later was employed as a sales representative at the Lottery Kiosk in the Parkway Mall. She enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage and spending time with her grandchildren. Survived by three sons: Mark (Cathy) of Houston, Texas, Andrew (Kathy) and Bruce (Christine), both of Saint John; one daughter, Lorna (Eric) Osborne of St. Martins; two brothers, Noel (Sue) Quinn of Ottawa, ON and Mike (Florence) Quinn of Saint John; two sisters, Irene Stephen of Saint John and Marjorie Driscoll of Pickering, ON; brother-in-law, William “Bill” (Joan) Smith of Saint John; seven grandchildren: Mark, Spencer, Meaghan, Mallory, Justin, Courtney and Sammy Jay; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents and husband; brother, John Quinn; sisters, Joan Preston, Pearl Garnett, Margaret “Peg” Ellis and Mary (Michaud) Chase; sister-in-law, Shirlee Quinn; brothers-in-law, Norman Garnett and George Ellis; father-in-law, John Smith and mother-in-law, Elizabeth Smith. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424 with visiting on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Service will be held from Brenan's Chapel on Thursday, January 19, 2006 at 11 am. Interment will be held on a later date in Fernhill Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick, IWK Hospital for Children or a charity of the donor's choice.
