Obituary of Isobel Geraldine Mulligan

Isobel Geraldine "Gerry" Mulligan (nee Whyte), formerly of 33 Broadway, Kennebecasis Park, wife of Dr. William Mulligan, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2006 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Saint John, after a brief illness. Born in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, on June 6, 1922, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary Jane (MacLean) Whyte. Gerry graduated from Dalhousie University in May 1945, she worked with her brother Eric as a dental assistant in Sydney Mines until marrying Bill Mulligan and moving to Saint John in 1958. Gerry was an active member of St John & St Stephen Presbyterian Church for more than 40 years. She was a mainstay in the church kitchen organizing dinners and receptions. A woman of quiet strength, she was loved and admired by family and friends. She loved to laugh and tell stories. She was famous for her elegant and delicious cookies. The children of the neighbourhood made themselves at home in her house. She loved her garden. She is survived by her husband Bill, her daughters Dr. Lois Margaret Mulligan (Robert McCleave) of Kingston, ON, and Dr. Isobel Jane Mulligan (Dr. Greg Grudic) of Niwot, CO, brother Eric Whyte (Marilyn), three grand daughters; Amaret Grudic, and Lily and Rose McCleave and numerous nieces, nephews, grand and great grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers John and Grant Whyte, and sister Lois Fraser. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John NB (634-7424) with visiting from 2 PM until 4 PM and 7PM until 9PM on April 12. The funeral will be held at St John and St Stephen Church on April 13 at 2:00PM. Donations in her memory to The Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family.
