Obituary of Osborne Roy Thorne

The death of Osborne Roy Thorne occurred at 9:45 am, June 3, 2006 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. It is with great sadness that the family of Osborne Thorne announces his passing after a lengthy illness with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease at the age of 88 years young. Born In Saint John, NB he was the son of the late William Osborne Thorne and Myrtle Margarot (Devine) Thorne. Osborne was predeceased by his wife Nadine Elizabeth (Ginson) Thorne, brothers Norman James Thorne, Ralph William Thorne and sister Gertrude Myrtle (Thorne) Allen. He graduated from Saint John Vocational School and the NB Agriculture & Forestry College. He was a Choir Boy at St. Paul's Anglican Church for years. Member Saint John Ford V Eights & Fredericton Capitals Hockey Teams, the YMCA, an Avid Speed Skater. Enlisted in the Canadian Army then joined the Saint John Police Dept. His ventures included Thorne's Grandview Poultry & Hatchery Farm, Thorne's Sawmill & Lumber Company, Grandview Dairy Farm. Riverbend Tent and Trailer Park, Kingsway Materials Ltd. He hosted Radio Talk Show for Purina Feeds, a Carpenter by Trade, organized Charitable Fund Raisers with outdoor chicken barbeques, Thistle St. Andrews Curling Club, Sandy Point Community Club etc., 50 Year Canadian Red Cross Blood Donor. Past member of the NB Dairy Farmers Assn, Holstein Assn, Black Angus Assn., NB Wood Lot Producers Assn., Canadian Trotters Assn., American Trotters & Breeders Assn., SNB Prospecting Mining Assn., 56 year member of Masonic Lodge No. 22, member of Alzheimer's Society. He was a Man who enjoyed Singing, Dancing, Reading, watching Hockey, listening to Country Music, Old Time Fiddling, playing the Harmonic. In the hospital Prayers given before Death by Anglican Rev. Patricia Craig and Pentecostal Rev. James Fudge with Son Retired Detective Robert Osborne Thorne of the Saint John Police Department. He is survived by two brothers Gerald William Thorne of Alberta, and Donald Harold Thorne of Bloomfield, NB. Sadly missed by daughter Sandra Elizabeth (Thorne) Nickleson and Robert Nickleson, grandsons Robert and Danny of Witchita, Kansas, USA, son Robert Thorne and Lucille (Pratt) Thorne of Quispamsis, NB, granddaughter Christine Louise Thorne of Quispamsis, grandson Robbie and Gail (Evans) Thorne, great-grandson Bradley, of Calgary, AB, grandson Troy and Tina (Pollock) Thorne, great-grandchildren Stephanie and Jaylan, of Calgary, AB, grandson David and Carrie (Abric) Thorne, great-grandchildren Brendon, Madison, Nicholas, Lucas and Zachery, of Quispamsis, NB, great-grandchildren Michael and Jenna Holland of New Ross, NS, and many relatives, nieces, nephews and friends. A special thanks to the Staff of the Palliative Care Unit. Resting at Brenans Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Friday, June 9, 2006 at 1:00 pm from Brenan's Chapel. The Honorary Pallbearers are Chief Thomas Breen (retired), Inspector Kenneth Baxter (retired), Inspector Dallas Urquhart (retired), Detective Sergeant Wilfred Stewart (retired), Inspector Herbert Robertson (retired), RCMP Willard Scarff (retired), the late Inspector Brydon Little, and longtime friend Herb Hardy, Contractor. Interment will take place at Pennfield Ridge Community Cemetery. Remembrances made to the Alzheimer's Society would be appreciated by the family.
