Obituary of Donald Malcolm Merrithew

Donald Malcolm Merrithew of Saint John East, loving husband for 53 years of Mary Louise (Frawley) Merrithew, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2006, at the Saint John Regional Hospital with his family at his side. Born in Saint John, NB, he was the son of the late Guy M. and Lena (Stairs) Merrithew. Don started his career with the Bank of Nova Scotia where he became the youngest manager in Canada, and ended his working career in Investment Banking. He was a member of many charitable service clubs. Don was an avid fisherman and wonderful outdoorsman, who loved nothing more than taking his children hunting and fishing. Besides his wife, Mary, he is survived by his sons, Donald Malcolm Jr. and David (Kathy), all of Saint John, and Scott, Calgary, AB; daughters, Holly Jean Beyea (Joseph Burke), Saint John, Jill Zelward (Edward), Darlings Island, and Susan Stewart (Ronald), Saint John; brothers, Hal (Lenny) Merrithew, Ottawa, ON and Doug (Rhoda) Merrithew, Garnett Settlement, NB; sisters, Anna (Jim) McLean, St. George, NB and Wynona Geldart, Moncton, NB; sister-in-law, Bobby Merrithew, Springfield, NB; eight grandchildren, Nicole, Jennifer, John Ross, Jason, Blake, Ashley, Corey and Justin; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Donald’s brother, Gerald Merrithew, and his brother-in-law, Elton Geldart, predeceased him. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424) with visitation on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place from Brenan’s Chapel on Monday at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at a later date in Hampton, NB. Remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.
