Obituary of Douglas Frank Herbert MacDonald

The death of Doug MacDonald husband to the late Alice (Currie) MacDonald, of Bayswater, NB occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Friday, August 4th, 2006. Born on September 6th, 1922 in Saint John, NB, son of the Lewis and Julia (Kierstead) MacDonald. He worked at the T. S. Simms & Co. Ltd. as a machinist for 24 years until his retirement. During World War II, Doug was a Mechanical Engineer, and served overseas from 1943-1946. He was a trustee in the Bayswater Church and loved to square dance with his wife in the Beaus and Belles Club. He is survived by two daughters: Carol MacDonald of Bayswater, NB and Sharon Douglene (Cyril) Kilner of Nanaimo, BC; two sons: Barry (Joann) of Burnaby, BC and Glendon of Veron, BC; two sisters Vera Webb of Chilliwack, BC and Dorothy Fowler of Calgary, AB; six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Besides his wife and parents, Doug was predeceased by two brothers: Raymond and Donald, one sister Leona and one grandson David Eglen. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424) with visitation on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. During visitation there will be a Royal Canadian Legion Tribute Service on Sunday at 7 pm. The funeral service will be held at Brenan’s Chapel on Monday, August 7th, 2006 at 1pm. Internment in Spruce Hill Cemetery, Bayswater, NB, after the funeral service. Following the internment a reception will be held at St. Bridget’s Hall, Chapel Grove. Remembrances may be made to the Saint John Palliative Care Unit or the charity of the donor’s choice.
