Obituary of WILLIAM G. KIRK

The death of William George “Bill” Kirk of Martinon, Saint John, husband of Marion (Donald) Kirk, occurred peacefully on Monday, January 1, 2007 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on October 8, 1922 in Oak Point, NB, he was the son of the late W. Henry and Sadie (Akerley) Kirk. Mr. Kirk and his wife owned and operated the IGA Grocery Store in Martinon and Kirk’s Sales and Service for many years before his retirement in 1980. He was an avid hockey player and speed skater his whole life and organized the Old Timer’s Hockey League (50 plus years) where he continued to play until 2004. His passion was fiddle music and enjoyed playing with many groups in Saint John. Bill was a member of the Ties and Frills Square Dance Club for 26 years and was a member of the New Brunswick Old Time Fiddlers. Bill enjoyed gardening, family gatherings, wood working, carpentry, skiing and golf. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Donna Kirk of Grand Bay-Westfield, Faye Kirk-Thorne (Claude) of Havelock and Sherry Ogden (Bradley) of Public Landing, one sister, Helen Beckett of Oak Point, sister-in-law Verna Kirk of Saint John, four grandchildren, Jennie Ogden, Michael Ogden, Christina Ogden and Alexander Kirk, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Ronald Kirk. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday and Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral service will be held at Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, January 5, 2007 at 11:00 AM. Interment in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. Remembrances to Douglas Avenue Christian Church, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick, or the charity of the donors’ choice would be appreciated.
