Obituary of Mary Louise Q.C. Lynch

The death of Mary Louise Lynch Q.C. of Ottawa, ON occurred on Monday, April 16, 2007 at the Montfort Hospital. Born in Saint John, NB on November 27, 1909 the eldest daughter of the late Francis J. and Mary Louise Lynch. Survived by two sisters, Mrs. John D. Warren (Helen) of Essex, Conn., and Madame Jean R. Laliberte (Evelyn) of St. Laurent, P.Q. Will be fondly remembered by nephews, nieces cousins and many close friends. Graduated from St. Vincent’s High School, Saint John; pre-law Arts at Dalhousie University, Halifax, NS; B.C.L. from University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, NB (May 1933). Practiced law with Gilbert, McGloan & Gillis, Saint John (November 1933 … August 1960. L.I.D.(Hon.) St. Thomas University, Fredericton and D.C.L.(Hon.) University of New Brunswick. A life member of the Board of Governors of the University of New Brunswick as a Governor Emerita. Member of the Law Society of New Brunswick and the Canadian Bar Association. Member of the Royal Ottawa Golf Club, Le Cersle Universitaire. Past president and long-time resident of the Chelsea Club. Member of the Board of Commissioners of the Saint John Free Public Library; President of the University Women’s Club, Saint John; charter member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club, Saint John; Chairman of the Town Planning Commission of Metropolitan Saint John; member of the Selection Committee of the Beaverbrook Scholarships; secretary and registrar of the U.N.B. Faculty of Law 1947-59; legal advisor to Lord Beaverbrook 1947-1960. Appointed a member of the National Parole Board October 1, 1960, the first - and for ten years, the only woman on the Board, retiring November 27, 1975. A founding member of the Community Foundation of Ottawa … Carleton and a former member of the Boards of the United Way of Ottawa … Carleton and Social Planning Council of Ottawa … Carleton. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated from Holy Trinity Church, Caron St., Saint John on Thursday, May 24, 2007 at 12 noon. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances made to a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated.
