Obituary of M. Kathleen Connell

The death of M. Kathleen “Kay” Connell, wife of the late Philip F. Connell, occurred peacefully on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at Rocmaura Nursing Home, Saint John, NB. Born in Sussex, New Brunswick, Kay was the daughter of the late Walter Charles and Mary Adelaide (MacDonald) Daley. Kay was a graduate of St. Vincent’s High School, Saint John Vocational School and was Sales Consultant with Henry Birk’s and Son in Vancouver for many years before her retirement. Kay loved music and provided entertainment on her piano for her family and friends. She was a Pianist with the Doug Elliott Orchestra at the Lily Lake Pavilion for several years. Kay was the greatest and most loved mother to, Kathy Ablett (Richard) of Ottawa, ON, Colleen Ablett (David) of Toronto, ON, Susan Witiuk (James) of Winnipeg, MB, Michael Connell of Halifax, NS, Anne Yatkowsky (Lawrence) of Vancouver, BC, Mary Raper of Peterborough, ON and Ellen Connell (Peter Johnson) of Victoria, BC. She is survived by two sisters, Gertrude Horgan and Mary Leahy (William), both of Saint John, sisters-in-law, Noreen Bennett (John) of Montreal, QC and Eileen Duffley of Saint John. Kay was “Nana” to 20 beloved grandchildren, great Nana of 17 great grandchildren and beloved aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by son-in-law, Douglas Raper, brothers, Charles Francis and Ranald Daley and her sister, Joan Gaynes. The family would like to thank caregivers, Elizabeth, Valerie and Betty … The Staff of Garden Court and all who took care of and loved our Mom … A remarkable lady. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial and celebration of her life will be held at St. John the Baptist Church, Broad Street, Saint John, on Saturday, May 26, 2007 at 10:00 AM. Remembrances to the Rocmaura Foundation or the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.
