Obituary of E. L. Jean Furrow

Jean Furrow of Saint John, wife of Donald B. Furrow, passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Dow Settlement on July 28, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Reta (Patterson) McLellan. Jean was a graduate of Canterbury High School, and taught school for a brief period before moving with her husband to McAdam, and subsequently to Saint John. She was a charter member of the Forest Hills United Baptist Church, and a member of the Women’s Missionary Society, as well as volunteering at the Saint John Regional Hospital for many years. Jean was well known for her hospitality to friends and family, and opened their home to many people over the years. In retirement, she and Don enjoyed travelling, visiting family and friends along the way. In addition to her husband of 61 years, Jean is survived by her children, Edward (Sandra) of Calgary, Sydney (Jane) of Texas, David (Melissa) of Halifax, and Lona Murray (Rob) of Quispamsis; a daughter-in-law, Janet Furrow-Joyce of Quispamsis; grandchildren Brent, Scott, Craig, Brittany, Matthew, Bartholomew, Krystal, and Nicholas; a sister, Josie Nickerson of Windsor, Nova Scotia; and several nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by a son, Timothy; brothers Moody, Stewart, Donald, and Whitney McLellan; and sisters Mae McLellan and Mona Nicholson. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Sunday at 1:30 PM from the Forest Hills Baptist Church. Interment will take place in the Lower Meductic Cemetery on Monday at 10:30 AM. For those who wish, remembrances to the Canadian Cancer Society or to any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
