Obituary of Marjorie Cochrane

Cochrane, Annie Iva Marjorie … The death of Annie Iva Marjorie “Marnie” Cochrane of Saint John, NB, wife of Frederick Laws Cochrane, occurred on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at Rocmaura Nursing Home. Born in Linden, NS on October 30, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Elias and Matilda (Walker) Hunter. Marjorie had been a Registered Nurse at the Saint John General Hospital for forty years. She had served as a pipe organist for twenty years and also played her portable organ for numerous services throughout the city and at the Regional Hospital Chapel. She composed a published Children’s Song Book and numerous hymns. She was a former member of the IODE and enjoyed entertaining her quilting club and book club friends in her home. Her many interests included her love of gardening at her home on Frink St, reading and needlepoint. She is survived by her two sons, David (Levern) Cochrane of Quispamsis, NB and Brian (Lynn) Cochrane of Fredericton, NB; four grandchildren, Shelby (Tony) Stevenson, Christopher (Christine) Cochrane, Ryan (Elizabeth Kierstead) Cochrane and Jonathan Cochrane (fiancée … Jillian Thomas); five great-grandchildren, Marshal and Bryce Stevenson, Julia and Meaghan Cochrane, and Aiden Kierstead-Cochrane; sister-in-law, Mary Evelyn Jackson; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by two brothers, Calvin and Herbert Hunter; and a sister, Hilda Field. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424. At the request of the family there will not be any visiting at the funeral home. A Memorial Service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Sunday, November 22, 2009 at 3:00 pm with reception to follow. Interment will be at a later date in Amherst Cemetery, NS. Remembrances in memory of Marjorie made to Germain Street Baptist Church would be appreciated by the family. www.brenansfh.com
