Obituary of Cecil J. W. Scott

The death of Cecil J. W. Scott, husband of the late Lois Georgena (Deakin) Scott, occurred on Sunday, February 29, 2004, at Ridgewood Veterans Wing. Born in Saint John he was the son of the late Cecil A. and Frances (Sweeney) Scott. He was a graduate of Saint John High School and Saint John Vocational School. He was employed as an officer of the Saint John Police Force taking a leave of absence to serve in the army overseas with the Provost Corps. Upon returning, he enlisted with the Police Department and was Detective Sergeant leaving the Force in 1954. He joined the Police Force as a civilian two years later and was the Traffic Clerk until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of the Saint John Retiree's Association, was past-president of Maritime Provost, and was a member of Federal Provost. He was a member of St. Pius X Parish and was interested in youth groups and was a member of St. Pius Scout Group and the city scouting movement. He is survived by his sons Oscar Brian (Arlene) Scott of Abbotsford, BC, Stephen James (Linda) Scott of Halifax, his daughter Susan Frances (Gary) Jones of Quispamsis, his seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and sisters-in-law Alma Scott of Saint John, Betty Deakin of Grand Bay-Westfield and Dorothy Deakin of Fredericton. His sons James Michael and Peter Gerald Scott, his sister Doris W. Garnett and his brother Walter Scott predeceased him. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506-634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 10th, 2004 at 11:00 am from St. Pius X Church. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Remembrances made to the Kidney Foundation or the Alzheimer's Society would be appreciated.
