Obituary of Mabel Ella Mae Challoner

The death of Mabel Ella Mae Challoner of 14 Green Street, Saint John East, occurred on Friday, April 9, 2004 at her residence. Born in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Lillian (Brooks) Elliott. Mabel enjoyed singing at the Flame on City Road and at the Buffalo Club, where she was known as “Mabel Sugar”. Mabel is survived by one son Ray (Joan) of Saint John, four daughters, Shirley Hope of Upham, NB, Suzan (Vera) Mesheau (George) of Dartmouth, NS, Linda Challoner and Lillian Albert both of Saint John, her best friend, Delbert Worden, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Raymond, son-in-law, George Hope, three sisters Shirley Walton, Florence Abric and Cybil Pottie, and five brothers Sidney, Ronald (Mike), George, Albert and David (Duke). Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Sunday and Monday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral service will be held at Brenan's Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at 11:00 AM. Interment in Fernhill Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of the donors' choice.
