Obituary of Alexander Charles Fulford Hadfield

Alexander Charles Fulford Hadfield of Saint John, loving husband of Ann Elizabeth (Altmayer) Hadfield, passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at the Palliative Care Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in London, England on October 1, 1946, he was a son of the late Charles and Alice Mary (Smyth) Hadfield. Alec was a Professional Engineer who had been employed for many years at the Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station, and had most recently worked in Vienna, Austria for the International Atomic Energy Agency of the United Nations. He was a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick , as well as the Canadian Nuclear Society. Alec was a well known singer, a member of various local choirs, and had also sung with the Bach Choir in London and the Rochester Cathedral Choir. While living in Vienna, he sang with the church and community choirs. In addition to singing, his musical talents also included playing the cello and organ. He was an active member of Trinity Anglican Church. As well as his love of music, Alec enjoyed traveling with his wife, especially to see his daughters and grandchildren. Alec is survived by his wife of 38 years, Ann, and his three daughters, Amelia Hadfield-Amkhan (Adnan) of Brussels, Belgium, Mary Evans (the Rev’d Danny) of Swansea, Wales, and Elizabeth Hadfield of Halifax, NS; grandchildren Peter Evans, William Evans, and Alexander Hadfield-Amkhan; a sister, Molly Switek (Evek) of Warsaw, Poland; a brother-in-law, Anthony Altmayer (Barbara) of Burlington, ON; and several nieces and nephews. Alec was predeceased by an infant brother, Henry; a half sister, Laura Nugent; and by an adopted brother, John Gardiner. Visitation will take place at Trinity Anglican Church, 115 Charlotte Street, Saint John, on Thursday, February 10, 2011 from 7-9 PM and Friday, February 11, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held at the church on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 11:00 AM.
