In his younger years he played hockey and loved to fish, and in his later years enjoyed watching hockey and baseball; but most of all he enjoyed his grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye. In addition to his wife of 53 years, Red is survived by his children, Catherine Cummings (Walter Wilson) of Lorneville, Gordon A. Cummings Jr. of Saint John, Deborah Cummings of Darlings Island, and Victoria Wilkes (Samuel) of Saint John; his grandchildren, Alexander and Dominique; a brother, Beverly Cummings (Marjorie) of Saint John; two sisters, Kathleen Young of Saint John and Marlene Cummings of Rothesay; as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family of children that Red and Dot babysat over the years. Red was predeceased by sisters Esther Lockhart and Joy Lloyd.
